Overview

The 16-day Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake via Cho La Pass Trek is one of the most spectacular trekking routes in the Himalayas. This journey combines the classic Everest Base Camp trail with the serene Gokyo Valley and the adventurous crossing of the high-altitude Cho La Pass (5,420 m). The trek offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural exploration, and high Himalayan adventure. You will walk through traditional Sherpa villages, ancient Buddhist monasteries, rhododendron forests, and glacier valleys, while surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the world. Key viewpoints such as Kala Patthar (5,545 m) and Gokyo Ri (5,360 m) provide unmatched panoramic views of Mount Everest and other Himalayan giants including Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. This trek is moderately to strenuously challenging and suitable for experienced trekkers with good fitness and preparation.

Itinerary

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m)

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be warmly welcomed by the representative of Mother Land Nepal Trekking and transferred to your hotel. After hotel check-in, you can relax or explore the nearby tourist areas. In the evening, trip briefing and preparation for the trek. Overnight: Hotel in Kathmandu

Kathmandu Cultural Sightseeing

Today you will explore the cultural and historical highlights of Kathmandu Valley with a professional guide. The tour includes: •⁠ ⁠Kathmandu Durbar Square •⁠ ⁠Swayambhunath Stupa •⁠ ⁠Boudhanath Stupa •⁠ ⁠Pashupatinath Temple You will experience ancient architecture, Hindu and Buddhist traditions, and local culture. Final preparation for the trek is completed in the evening. Overnight: Hotel in Kathmandu

Fly to Lukla (2,840 m) → Trek to Phakding (2,610 m | 3–4 hrs)

Early morning scenic flight to Lukla offers stunning Himalayan views. After meeting the trekking crew, the journey begins with a gentle descent towards Phakding along the Dudh Koshi River. You will pass small villages, suspension bridges, and beautiful pine forests. Overnight: Teahouse in Phakding

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m | 6–7 hrs)

Today’s trail enters Sagarmatha National Park and gradually climbs through dense forests and river crossings. After crossing the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge, the trail becomes steep until Namche. Namche Bazaar is the main Sherpa town and trading hub of the Khumbu region. Overnight: Teahouse in Namche

Acclimatization Day in Namche (Hike 3–4 hrs)

This is an important rest and acclimatization day. You will hike to Everest View Hotel or Khumjung village for better altitude adjustment and panoramic views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. You can also visit Sherpa Museum and local markets. Overnight: Teahouse in Namche

Trek to Tengboche (3,860 m | 5–6 hrs)

The trail offers spectacular mountain views, especially of Ama Dablam. After descending to the river and climbing again through rhododendron forests, you reach Tengboche Monastery, the spiritual center of the region. Evening prayer ceremony may be attended. Overnight: Teahouse in Tengboche

Trek to Dingboche (4,410 m | 5–6 hrs)

The trail continues through Pangboche village, one of the oldest Sherpa settlements. Vegetation becomes sparse as you enter alpine terrain. Views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam dominate the landscape. Overnight: Teahouse in Dingboche

Trek to Lobuche (4,940 m | 5–6 hrs)

A steady ascent along the Khumbu Glacier moraine leads you to Lobuche. The terrain becomes rocky and high-altitude cold winds increase. Memorials of climbers at Thukla Pass are a key highlight of the day. Overnight: Teahouse in Lobuche

Trek to Gorakshep (5,160 m) → Everest Base Camp (5,364 m | 7–8 hrs)

Today is one of the most important days of the trek. You walk to Gorakshep and continue to Everest Base Camp. You will stand at the base of the world’s highest mountain surrounded by glaciers and expedition tents (seasonal). After exploration, return to Gorakshep. Overnight: Teahouse in Gorakshep

Hike Kala Patthar (5,545 m) → Trek to Dzongla (4,830 m | 6–7 hrs)

Early morning hike to Kala Patthar offers the best sunrise view of Mount Everest. After descent to Gorakshep, you move towards Dzongla via scenic trails. Overnight: Teahouse in Dzongla

Cross Cho La Pass (5,420 m) → Dragnag (4,700 m | 7–8 hrs)

A challenging day crossing Cho La Pass. The trail includes rocky paths, glacier sections, and steep climbs. Proper care and guide support are essential. After crossing, descend to Dragnag. Overnight: Teahouse in Dragnag

rek to Gokyo (4,790 m | 3–4 hrs)

A shorter and scenic day brings you to the beautiful Gokyo Valley. The turquoise glacial lakes appear as you approach the settlement. The view is peaceful and less crowded than Everest Base Camp route. Overnight: Teahouse in Gokyo

Hike Gokyo Ri (5,360 m) → Return

Early morning climb to Gokyo Ri gives a panoramic view of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. After descent, explore the surrounding lakes (1st–5th Gokyo Lakes). Overnight: Teahouse in Gokyo

Trek to Dole (4,110 m | 5–6 hrs)

You begin descending through beautiful alpine valleys, yak pastures, and rhododendron forests. The air becomes richer in oxygen as you descend. Overnight: Teahouse in Dole

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m | 6–7 hrs)

Continue descending towards Namche Bazaar. The trail passes small villages and suspension bridges. You return to the vibrant Sherpa town for rest and celebration. Overnight: Teahouse in Namche

Trek to Lukla (2,840 m | 6–7 hrs)

Final trekking day. You retrace your steps back to Lukla, crossing suspension bridges and forest trails. In the evening, a farewell celebration with guides and porters is held. Overnight: Teahouse in Lukla

Fly to Kathmandu

Morning scenic flight back to Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel and free time for rest, shopping, or sightseeing.

Final Departure

According to your international flight schedule, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport by the representative of Mother Land Nepal Trekking for your final departure.
